We are all doing ok here in California. We are still on lockdown. The grocery stores are still being wiped out by panic-buying. Bread Yeast seems to be the latest casualty. I have not been able to find any locally, but purchase some on eBay from a nearby baker who is selling their extra stock.
Our government is giving everyone stimulus money, so we decided we would use part of that to purchase lumber, fencing and soil to build enclosed garden-beds.
In our neck of the woods it is very difficult to have a garden. The ground is rocky, the summer is incredibly hot and dry, and all of the critters (ground-squirrels, gophers, birds, cats, dogs and chickens) all head straight for well-watered gardens to get cool and eat greenery.
The only solution is to build a raised bed and bring in soil (or make your own compost), and then enclose it completely from the ground up in wire fencing.
My first prototype built with scrapwood:
if this works out we will be building 6 more of these in various locations around the property.
Has anyone else been doing gardening?
