The tactic at the moment is to not follow the other chickens with their ridiculous and frightening "run to the people house and see if there's any dog food left" tactic, but rather go ninja like from bush to bush and hide. Progress though.

Do I see the branch of a Manzanita tree in one of those photos?

I don't know manzanita trees. Where on which photo (sorry for tardy reply)?

I will get a better pic in the morning when it's light.

Looks like a manzanita to me, though there's a lot of variety in that family. The leaves and berries in the pic match up almost exactly with a few of them.

I am fairly sure that Manzanita is a California Native Shrub, so it was a surprise for me to see one in that photo, but come to think of it I have found Spanish Figs in the back-country here in California as well as Asian Blackberries and European Fennel so it is not surprising that Manzanita would have migrated to Spain.

Interesting observation, and yes, they do appear to occur primarily in California, but I should point out the long history of Spanish influence and trade in that region and the fact that the name itself is Spanish. At that point, not being a horticulturist I think I'll just shrug my shoulders and look puzzled.

I think you might be right. I am looking closer and the bark of the tree/shrub in the photo does not have the distinctive red, smooth bark that Manzanita does.

Beautiful plant.
Vegetation in the Mediterranean area of Spain has similar characteristics to the coastal area of California. And the plants adopt similar strategies this is the reason because they look alike

And the region I live in is similar to both but in a completely different evolutionary branch. Maybe I should go walkabout and see if I can find something comparable...
